Age well care Initiative (AWCI)

Agewell Care Initiative has been in Operation since 2007 but was fully established in 2011 as a non-profit, non–governmental, non-religious and non-political organization.

AWCI ascertains that the ageing society is an opportunity for all generations hence engages majorly in promoting healthy ageing through advocacy, community-based intervention, distribution of relief items to ALL VULNERABLE AGES, the planning and provision of community services, promoting age-friendly environment and the building Ageing Recreation Centers for the rural elderly.

AWCI advocacy emphasizes the promotion of an enabling environment that encourages affordable and accessible housing, age-friendly primary health care services – more accessible and responsive to the specific needs of the vulnerable/older persons and the building of recreational centers for ALL AGES.

It pertains to the physical environment coupled with emotional and psychological security of a home and community, which enable vulnerable/older persons to live independently.

PROMOTING HEALTHY AGEING IN THE SOCIETY

The AWCI’s mandate is multi-pronged, namely to serve as a resource for older persons; raise public awareness on issues related to ageing and older persons; conduct sensitization campaigns; promote meaningful participation of ALL AGES in the society; and encourage healthy, productive and active ageing.

AWCI also aims at countering the prejudices concerning the life, status and significance of ALL AGES in the society thereby making the society age-friendly.
