Agewell Care Initiative (AWCI)

An opportunity for all generation

Age-well Care Initiative is a non-profit, non –governmental, non-religious and non-political organization with special consultative status with the UN on Ageing that is out to challenge and change the current stereotypes of ageing and older age.

AWCI is an Associate Member of the International Federation on Ageing (IFA) Global Connections- a network of organizations charged with improving the quality of life of older persons around the world through policy change, grassroots activities, and strengthening public-private partnerships to support ageing issues.

AWCI is recognized by the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development the umbrella ministry responsible for the coordination of policy initiatives on ageing in Nigeria.

AWCI aims at countering the prejudices concerning the life, status and significance of ALL AGES in the society thereby making the society age-friendly.

AWCI believes that the ageing society is an opportunity for all generations and its major products amongst others are promoting healthy and productive ageing through advocacy and Social care —Distribution of relief items to the aged, the planning of community services for the elderly and the building of Ageing Recreation Centers for the rural elderly.

PROMOTING HEALTHY AGEING IN THE SOCIETY

To promote healthy ageing and encourage the older people to be contributing members of the community – as well as the society at large.

  • Offers Opportunities for the elderly to socialize and enjoy peer supports.   
  • Provide respite to family and caregivers.

  • Promotes physical and mental health in stimulating environments.

  • Provides exercise programmes and maintenance rehabilitation.

  • Helps functionally impaired adults to improve or maintain their level of independence.

  • Provides alternatives therapy.

  • Train family care givers.

  • Increasing awareness among health professionals.

  • Coordinate in-home care services for the frail elderly.

  • Community Intervention – Distributing relief materials to support living.

To assist the frail maintain their independence and dignity while ageing.
